We all know what a bad attitude will do to a team! At Success for Teams LLC, we have seen first hand that successful teams are comprised of student-athletes who understand that their attitude is contagious. In today’s post, we will share an overview of why attitude, perspective, and self-talk are skills that successful teams embrace and develop.
“Attitude is Everything”
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
'Well', she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today”.'
So she did, and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
'H-M-M,' she said, 'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.'
So she did, and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'today I'm going to wear my hair in a ponytail.'
So she did and she had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
'YEA!' she exclaimed, 'I don't have to fix my hair today!'
· Attitude is everything. We cannot always control what happens to us but we can control our reaction to it.
· Perspective matters - when you change the way you look at things you can have an entirely different experience.
· Self-talk matters - What we say to ourselves about a situation becomes the starting point for action. Is your self-talk helping your situation or keeping you stuck.
Successful teams have a positive outlook and approach every situation with an attitude that helps them achieve. They know that positive environments outperform negative ones, that positive leaders make better decisions under pressure, and that positive emotions (such as gratitude and appreciation) actually help athletes perform better.
